Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do I need to hire a professional makeup artist for my wedding?

Reason #1: Because your wedding pictures are forever!

A makeup artist will make sure you look like the very best version of yourself so you are confident and glowing for the most important photoshoot of your life. A pro artist has a trained eye in the most flattering ways to enhance your natural beauty so you look timelessly gorgeous even when you look back on your pictures in the decades to come.

Reason #2: Experience.

We’ve got all the special tricks, techniques, and pro products that will keep you flawless through your special day and all the (happy) tears that come with it. We also know how to handle extreme weather situations to keep your look fresh during those hot and humid summer days.

Reason #3: Hygiene.

We take sanitation and cleanliness seriously…no double dipping into products, sharing lipstick or mascara, and every face we touch get a set of clean fresh brushes. Because the last thing you want is to start off your honeymoon with pinkeye…or worse.

Reason #4: You deserve a stress free wedding morning.

Your makeup artist ensures you’ll get to enjoy a relaxing morning without the added stress of needing a steady hand with that eyeliner, getting your false lashes on and blended seamlessly, or having to keep your bridal party on schedule and focused on the task at hand. We’ll be taking care of all that!

Reason #5: because you’re worth it!

You’ve spent so much time and energy planning a beautiful event for your family and friends, and after dealing with all those last minute details it’s finally time to pamper yourself before you walk down the aisle and into your new life as a Mrs!

Wedding bookings:

Q: How do I contact you if I want to book you?

A: Click here and fill out the inquiry form.

Q: How far in advance should I book you for my wedding?

A: Weddings can book out a year or more in advance and I never enjoy delivering the news that I’m not available for your wedding, so I recommend booking as soon as you can.

Q: What is the process to secure you for my wedding date?

A: Once we confirm we are available for your date, we will request some basic information so we can create your proposal. You will be officially booked after you sign the contract and pay the 50% retainer fee.

Q: Do you require a deposit/retainer?

A: A 50% retainer for total services booked is required to secure your date.

Q: When do I need to provide the final count for makeup services?

A: You can add on services at any time if scheduling allows, however doing so sooner than later is recommended. The closer to the date of services, the more difficult it may be to find the additional artists necessary to accommodate.

Q: Can I add or subtract services once my booking is confirmed?

A: If scheduling and availability allows you may add on services, however once booking is finalized you may not subtract already contracted services. Makeup services cannot be substituted for hair services and vice versa.

Q: What if I need to cancel or reschedule my wedding?

A: If the client wishes to reschedule their booking 60 days before the wedding date and Giselle Dozier Artistry is available for the rescheduled date, the original 50% retainer payment may be transferred to the new date with an additional rescheduling fee.

If cancelling at least 60 days before the wedding date or Giselle Dozier Artistry is not available for the requested date of rescheduling, no further payment will be owed however any payments previously made are not refundable and non transferable.

Total booking balance will be due for any cancellations or reschedules if less than 60 days before the wedding date. Reschedules less than 60 days before the wedding date will be considered a new and separate booking requiring a 50% retainer fee and balnce due 2 weeks before the new wedding date.

Trials:

Q: Do you offer bridal trials? If yes, what can I expect at my trial appointment?

A: Yes I always recommend for every bride to book a trial so you get the opportunity to test run your dream wedding day look. At your trial appointment, we will talk in depth about how you want your hair and makeup to make you look and feel, and how to address any skincare concerns leading up to the big day so you can be sure to get the best performance from your makeup. Your appointment is scheduled for up to 90 minutes and includes one look with adjustments. “Inspiration” pictures of your hair and makeup are always appreciated, and help us to get the best idea of the direction you want to go in with your look. Once your appointment is completed, we will discuss any additional changes, and you will receive a follow up email the next day to confirm all the details we discussed.

Q: When should I do my trial?

A: I recommend trials be booked four to six weeks before the wedding date. This allows enough time for an additional trial if necessary while still being close enough to the big day to keep the vision fresh in mind. Trial appointments are available at your convenience during the week, and in the evenings on weekends.

Q: Can I do a bridal trial to decide if I want to book your services?

A: Yes, many brides prefer to book a trial before confirming their wedding booking, however your date is not held or guaranteed based on your booked bridal trial.

Q: How should I prepare for my bridal trial?

A: To prepare for your trial, it's helpful to make sure conditions are as close to how you envision them on your wedding day. If you plan on getting a spray tan, lash extensions or facial treatments like dermaplaning, its best to have those done before your trial as well. Skin should be clean, moisturized, and makeup free.

Additionally, wear a white or neutral solid top. Colors in your clothing can effect your makeup and interfere with the overall look.

Rates:

Q: What are your rates and how do I pay?

A: Packages start at $900. This includes makeup for the bride and up to four additional bridal party members. Hair packges also start at $900 and include the bride plus four. A 50% payment for wedding day services is required to book, and the remaining 50% is due two weeks before the wedding date. When you receive your proposal you will find the invoice attached and you can pay by credit or debit card.

Q: Is there a wedding day minimum?

A: The minimum booking amount is $900 and includes makeup for the bride plus four additional bridal guests. Wedding day hair styling services also have a minimum of $900 and include the bride plus four. For additional artists added on for larger groups or for shortening the getting ready time, there is a five service or $750 minimum per artist.

Q: Do you offer any discounts?

A: We do not offer any discounts.

Q: Can my bridal party all pay you individually?

A: We do not accept individual payments. The booking and contract is with the bride only, and we will only accept payment from the contracted party.

Wedding day  services:

Q: What do I need to do to prepare for you for the wedding day services?

A: For wedding day services, please provide a clean area with ample counter or table space to set up on, bar height chairs for makeup services, and someone to supervise any young children or animals away from the working area.

Please instruct any guests who are receiving services to have clean moisturized and makeup free skin, and their lipstick color of choice for touch ups after services are complete.

Q: Do you provide airbrush makeup?

A: Yes, I love airbrush makeup for a natural and undetectable finish, and of course it’s exceptional longevity of wear! Airbrush makeup is included in all makeup services at no additional cost.

Q: Do you recommend airbrush makeup for wedding day makeup?

A: Airbrush makeup is a fabulous choice for any occasion. It’s lightweight, natural looking, and long wearing making it an exceptional option for brides. However, I also carry high quality traditional liquid foundation that gives great coverage and will hold up beautifully for all day events.

Q: Can you accommodate large wedding parties? Can you provide additional artists?

A: Absolutely! My team of talented artists and stylists are experienced with and ready to assist larger parties. A $750 booking minimum (equal to up to five additional services) is required per additional artist.

Q: Can I hire you for a partial makeup application if I want just eyes or face?

A: If only a partial service is requested we will be happy to accommodate, however the rate for a full service will still apply.

Q: Will you provide a schedule or timeline for wedding day services?

A: Yes, a schedule for wedding day services will be discussed during the bridal trial, and finalized before the wedding day. I recommend scheduling your end of services before the arrival of your photographer, or at least an hour before you need to be “out the door”.

Q: How long does a makeup service take?

A: Makeup is scheduled for up to one hour for the bride, and up to 45 minutes for bridal party members. Touch up time is always included in the schedule for last minute adjustments or lipstick applications/reapplications.

Q: Will you be staying until the end of the wedding?

A: Your booking ends at the time that services are completed. If you would like to book touch ups for after services have been completed, you can book those hourly. Additional fees apply for each change of location.

Travel:

Q: Do you travel to me? If so what do you charge for travel?

A: Yes, all of our services are provided on location which means we come to you! Travel fee is complementary for bookings in the city, $25 per artist for bookings outside of the city, and an additional $25 per artist per additional hour of travel outside of the city after that. Parking, valet, or travel related expenses will be billed after booking is completed, and if your location is more than two hours away then overnight accommodations near your getting ready location are required.

General FAQs:

Q: Do you do makeup for any other occasions besides weddings?

Absolutely, we provide makeup for any occasion including but not limited to: engagement photos, rehearsal dinner or other wedding related events, boudoir and maternity shoots, professional headshots or branding photoshoots, and even private makeup lessons. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings are reserved for wedding bookings or bookings with a minimum of $900.

Q: How do I book you for my special occasion or photoshoot makeup?

You can inquire directly with the services you are interested in booking to info@giselledozierartistry.com including the time you need to be ready by and your getting ready location address.

Q: How do I prepare for my makeup application?

Clean, exfoliated, and moisturized skin free of makeup is appreciated. Makeup inspiration pictures are not require but are very helpful.

Q: What does a typical makeup application look like?

We start every makeup application with a consultation to understand exactly the look you are going for and any makeup preferences. Next, gentle skincare prep before we get started on your makeup application. After “the reveal” we will request your feedback on the finished look and make any requested changes so it’s just right. We don’t take things personally so please don’t be shy, if there is anything you are unhappy with let us know and we will be more than happy to adjust it.

Q: Will my makeup last?

All of our products are selected and tested personally by us for their long wearing ability and performance, and we are experienced in application techniques that will ensure you get the longest wear possible out of your makeup look. By nature, lipstick tends to wear off the quickest so we recommend having a color you love on hand to touch up with. Brides receive a touch up kit as part of their makeup service that includes their lip color plus oil absorbing papers and a mini sponge.

Q: Is the mascara waterproof?

Unfortunately waterproof mascara doesn’t mean tear or sweat proof and can be very difficult to remove when it does smudge. This is why I personally use a “tubing” mascara that is more smudge and run resistant. In the event that it does separate from the lashes, the small pieces can be swept away easily from the skin without affecting the makeup underneath.

Q: How do I remove false lashes?

Let the steam from your shower or warm water from your sink soften the glue, then grab the outer lash corner and with your eyes closed pull gently inward. False strip lashes are adhered with a soft rubbery glue, and should come off easily without compromising your healthy natural lashes. Some waterproof eye makeup remover afterwards will make quick work of any left over glue.

Q: Do I need to bring my own foundation?

You do not need to bring your own foundation. We always carry professional quality foundations in global skin tones that can match any complexion.

Q: Can you use my own personal makeup products on me?

If you would prefer for us to use your personal makeup, you must provide new and unopened product. We cannot guarantee longevity or performance when using products not from our professional kit.

Q: Do you do contouring? Do I need contouring?

The contouring technique I use you may not recognize as the same contouring you see by influencers on social media. I prefer a much more subtle and natural sculpting that enhances your features, instead of changing them. Your features are already perfect, no need to contour anything!

Q: Should I tip?

Tipping is never expected or required, the best tip you can give is an honest review on our google page.

You can find reviews from past clients on my google business page, Facebook, and in my Instagram story highlights under “testimonials”.
